Biography
The Gohards! were our local '77 punk heroes. They were in a very similar vein to The Damned both musically (they frequently used to include a cover of New Rose in their set), and in their gloriously chaotic live performances: they regularly were drunk on stage and frequently ended up playing the encores stark bollock naked fighting with local drunks!
They originally started out as' The Freaking Mongoloids' back in '76 and used to be regulars at Bear Bones Club in Reading until it closed, they did a small US tour and a couple more local shows until mid '78 when they split up. They reformed in '79 which was when they recorded the single 'better than the Fuckers' which they released themselves on their own 'Random Shit' recordlabel.
They initially rejected a recording contract offered to them by EMI, but subsequently were forced to agree to sign up for 2 singles because they needed someone to sponsor them on tour as they'd been offered a support slot by The Damned. Unfortunately no money was forthcoming from the recorddeal so they had to abandon the tour and, feeling understandably annoyed and despondent, they decided to call it a day again. Their only release (a 4 song 7 inch, including the number one hit 'Motocross'.) is now being re-released in very limited numbers.
