Biography
Started in 2004, The Haterz was a DIY punk rock band consisting of a semi-revolving lineup of mostly young and poor drunken working-class African-American young men from the South East side of Chicago.
The longest-running lineup was the trio of Calvin Chaos aka Xombie Panic (lead vocals & songwriting), Freddy Dredd (bass guitar) and Brian Altimer aka Jarhead (vocals & rhythm guitar). Invariably different friends of the band would fill in on drums for live performances, while Calvin Chaos played drums and sang simultaneously for many practice sessions. For the recording of the 2006 demo Kemet Pryor, a friend and member of fellow Chicago band Bushoong, played drums.
In early 2007 the band went on a sudden hiatus, due to various personal scheduling problems and commitments.
The Haterz was also the first band with a lineup formed from the Afropunk network community, surrounding the buzz at the time from the documentary film of the same name.
