Biography
THE HET created by Valera&SomeStrangePeople in 1994. The musician was one of the members of an exotic trance-dub project ESCLAVOS DEL FUTURO (he worked with this band during 1993-1994). Later on he joined a brilliant psychedelic ALIEN PAT. HOLMAN (1995-1996). Collaboration with them turned into the organizing of a magic brand in Russian electronic music- MINISTRY OF PSYCHO and Valera works now as a minister of psychedely there as well.
The special mark of THE HET, taking part in the bands is its literal contents, usually creating music by means of voice, poetry, samplers, tape-machines in real time.
His metaphysical sampling is easily heard in the debut ESCLAVOS DEL FUTURO’s album “THE HET” that makes that old school dance floor music sound pretty existential 10 years later.
THE HET brought cultural and ideological basis , that has a wide variety of meanings and dynamic comparing the functions of text with the voice. For example in ALIEN PAT. HOLMAN Valera developed very avant-garde in those days “spoken words” technique. Especially good were such improvisations as “My God”; “Don’t SOS me!”, very popular “REPRISA” (From "Our passion’s flowers" album 1995) and “The Crystal World” (released in 1995 Purple Legion Strikes back live psychedelic music compilation).
The special about all the mentioned works is their mystic and authentic message that touches upon the further worlds of the human collective unconsciousness. In the most striking period of improvisational MINISTRY OF PSYCHO (1996-2000) THE HET sounds more like a futuristic sympho-noise with some really groovy text as well.
In the beginning of the 21 century met in some really extreme life conditions away from Moscow, recording two masterpieces an album “Trinity Creation” (with a musician WJ Axegumator) and a authentic scientific audio treatise “The life after Oil” (This work was originally demonstrated during the concerts of MINISTRY OF PSYCHO at the independent radio Substation, existed in Moscow in 1997). These recordings can be described as meditative psychedelic landscapes, made according to the author’s low-fi, non-digital technologies.
In 2005 THE HET turns into the modern virtual sound technologies. On the 30th of May year 2006 Citadel records released “Down” album. That is the different way of working with sound and style. Hypnotizing hi-tech, IDM and very sophisticated electro-trance give the impression of the crystallization all the ideas. It consists of 12 tracks with deep intelligent electronic music- that can be both used as a chilling atmosphere for any place. The atmosphere of trancepersonal mystery in the vibes of minimalism, dub and trance helps the listener to get into very thin astral emanation.
In the latest interview Valera says about “Down” : “ I wanted to make a very naive album and it turned out to be so romantic! It has a very special mood. Using the electronic archetype language I can say : Here is the DOWN- a very correct description of a music VST difersion… (laughing..!)”.
In 2006 Valera (THE HET) and Moscow ambient composer Arcadiy Marto (famous for such bands as Moscow Grooves Institute, Eject Project, 4.33) record together a very interesting live album with its audio visual manifest “The Movement of NO joining”. An hour long recording consists of the recent live performances in Moscow and St. Petersburg . This collaboration sounds more like the new wave of Russian cultural Renaissance- fighting against the indifference and narrow-mindity.The musicians try to create and not to copy creations.
Valera says about this collaboration: “Now I am more interested in such a work, where there is a n original disintegration in the days of total globalism. We call this “The Movement of NO joining”, which means that the piano, for instance, going towards sequencer, but they never meet- simply flowing in noises and soundscapes. When the flow is already inside the other flow, which is as useful for anyone as CHAOS. In addition to this we go on using human voice, by means of W.Burroughs’ CUTUPswhich are as old as the world is, but still stay hyper-actual.
