Tennessee's the Hosemobile was founded in 1994 by drummer and vocalist Tige Casey and guitarist Rob Ring. The group's lineup solidified two years later with the additions of Jeremy Averitt on guitar and piano as well as bassist Cain Blanchard, and the quartet released their own CD, Six Foot Hater. By the time What Can and Can't Go On was released in 1999, the Hosemobile had already toured the Eastern U.S., Australia, and New Zealand. Many of the members had classical training, and the group writes all of their music together. They turn out a complex, aggressive sound unmistakably influenced by art rock and math rock bands like Slint and Don Caballero; they also cite as influences such progressive experimental bands as Mahavishnu Orchestra and This Heat.
