there is more than one band called The Housewives.

The Housewives

…are “sophisto-pop”, say Artrocker

Laurie: Vocals, guitar
Nick: Vocals, bass, glockenspiel
Chris: Drums
John: Keyboards, percussion

The Housewives got together in December 2007 to make hip-swerving dancefloor indie. The band mix up indie pop, drum and bass, Latin beat and whatever else they fancy to catchy effect.

Their jam-packed live schedule has seen them support Young Knives, Bloc Party and Belle and Sebastian. They’ve played all over the country, including London, Nottingham, Leeds, Manchester and Luton. They’ve also shared a stage with Victorian English Gentlemans Club and Hot Puppies, played an anarchist squat party and had their arses slapped by Mani. Good times…

The band’s first single, ‘Getaway’, hit the shops as a limited-edition 7” on Monday, 19th November, selling out in Rough Trade in its first week of release. A riotous combination of punk, house and jaunty guitars, the three tracks picked up good reviews, and made it onto the radio in the UK and Europe. Huzzah!

Cult indie label (and launch pad for the Long Blondes) Filthy Little Angels put out two covers by the band late last year. Both ‘Rose Tint My World’, recorded for a Rocky Horror Picture Show-themed compilation, and ‘I Saw Mommy’, a festive track for a Christmas comp, were picked out as highlights by reviewers.

Catch the band live in a town near you soon: in store in 2008 are London shows, a UK tour and possibly a trip to sunny Germany.

Here’s what some lovely types said about The Housewives:

Artrocker profile: “Imagine Jeff Buckley salsa dancing at a drum n’ bass night while Young Knives look on and you’re close to what the ‘wives have achieved.”
Queens ezine: ”Makes you wanna get your dancing shoes on, and jive with that boy that’s caught your eye.”
100db ezine: “Cute, but pervy.”

Another is The Housewives, a pseudo-feminist punk rock band from newfoundland, canada. They formed in June 2005 as Sam (Vocals), Eric (Guitar) and Jake (Drums), and added Adam (Bass) in October 2005. The music was a mixture of agression, catchiness and dancey hooks, with lyrics relating to women's issues (IE Pretty Pretty Truck Truck's "Who the fuck do you think you are/I'm not your fucking whore/Get the fuck away from me/I won't get in your - pretty pretty truck truck") or just ridiculous things that may have nothing to do with anything at all. Right after the release of their tape (December 2005) they split up, after only playing one song live. In mid 2006, they reformed for some parties, but have broken up again

Discography:

50 Foot Slug Tape (11 songs, 2005)
