Biography
The K-Cutters is a "revolving door" group created by producer/turntablist Lowly. Originally from Jacksonville, FL, currently based in Tampa, FL, Lowly previously made hip hop, electronica and chiptune-inspired music with childhood friend Mugen as Amalgam. The group was created as a purely hip hop outlet for Lowly, and there is no solid concept of "members" to the group. Collaborators can contribute musical or vocal elements to a project as they see fit, thus the description of being a "revolving door."
Despite the "revolving door" policy, a typical track will be solely produced by Lowly, or co-produced by Lowly and Mugen, and feature vocals from Lowly and his wife, Lowlette, a.k.a. Madame Butterfly. Influenced by producers such as Madlib, Pete Rock, Thes One (of People Under The Stairs), Q-Tip (of A Tribe Called Quest), and MF DOOM, Lowly mostly embraces a "crate digging" sampling ethic when producing a track, but will also contribute his own (or a contributor's) live instrumentation, while Mugen may contribute ambient, electronica elements.
