Biography
jon maka first saw ken maka at a temasek poly gig in 1996. ken maka was performing on stage and played the bass guitar between his legs. it was then that jon maka thought to himself: "damn, this guy got mad skills!".
as fate would have it, their paths crossed again when they found that both of them were posted to the same unit during national service. under the fatherly supervison of their CO, ken and jon endured many good and bad times together (as most national service experiances, they were mostly bad times).
at the start of 2007, jon and ken toyed with the idea of forming a two person electronica/indie group. inspired by the likes of the postal service, the analog girl and many others (refer to influences) and a common love for 70s-80s hong kong movies by the hui brothers, ken and jon adopted the name of the Karl Maka, in tribute to the legendary actor with bald head in the 'aces goes places' series. the Karl Maka are keeping their fingers crossed that the REAL mr. Karl Maka does not sue their asses off for whatever legal reasons. in which case they may be forced to adopt the name "the Teddy Robbins".
