Biography

The Keith Tippett Group was a British jazz band formed by pianist Keith Tippett (1947 – 2020) in London in 1967 and disbanded in 1971.

The band was a sextet comprising, in addition to Tippett, Elton Dean on saxophone, Mark Charig on cornet, Nick Evans on trombone (all three musicians also contributed to Soft Machineat the time), plus Alan Jackson on drums, and Jeff Clyne upright bass.

In January 1970, the band recorded the album, You Are Here… I Am There, Tippett's debut as a bandleader (as a side note, it was at that time that Tippett guested on King Crimson's second album, In the Wake of Poseidon).

The Keith Tippett Group ceased activity in 1971, with Tippett going on to Ovary Lodge and more.
