A calming if not melancholic start to The Kook’s debut album "Inside In/Inside Out", “Seaside” is an acoustic opener that serves as a good introduction to the songs that follow it. In many ways, “Seaside” almost acts as a prologue for the rest of the album, letting the audience know that he fell in love at the seaside and that he’s going to tell them how with the rest of the album. The sort of somber tone of the song suggests that perhaps the story does not have a happy ending, however.

The fact that The Kooks are from Brighton, England, a sea-resort town on the southern English coast, also suggests that this song might be partly autobiographical. With all of the things to do on seaside in Brighton, it is also not really a surprise if a couple did fall in love there.
