Okay, this song is fucking annoying. Starless_night, withoutmusic, airairairhair I concur. Why would anyone write such a horrible song about a great city unless their love wasn't blind? [2]

she couldn't care less about Washington D.C. and that is where the beauty of this song comes from

Starless_night: fair enough, that's pretty convincing. i've never been to DC, admittedly. (i think i'm theoretically fond of it because of Dischord, etc.)

Having lived in DC, I agree with you Starless_night....you kinda have to live there...its a shithole and shes the only good thing about it.

Have you guys ever been to D.C. ? I think it is meant to be ironic. The descriptions are absurdly flattering. Note that all those are are not the reasons the narrator wants to stay (if it's really that great, why don' these reasons matter). In other words i think the narrator is really saying "I'd leave this shithole if I didn't love you so much."

the song is scathing? i dunno, DC seems to come out of it pretty well to me. it has cherries everywhere in bloom, people doing something real, scenery circling the mall, a thousand things you've got to see, etc. it's just that the narrator's love for her baby tops even all that stuff.

An interviewer once called Bob Mould "the most depressed man in rock music" to which he replied "You've never met Stephen Merritt."

Bakgwei, try having lived in D.C. for eight years, having grown accustomed to the actually fairly good public transportation, and then moving to New Mexico and using their public transit. Trust me, you'd be wanting to move back-- as I do.

I like it, but I'm biased-- I used to live in the area and want to move back. :-)

For the longest time, this was the only thing on '69 Love Songs' I could tolerate. Now I pretty much love the whole thing.
