Biography
Twin brothers Jules and Marcus Carbrant formed The Manifold Curiosity in Canterbury in 2010, taking their name from a phrase often used by popular television host and pensioner botherer Jonathan Ross. Their music is often claimed to be an attempt to transpose the myriad emotions explored and provoked by Werner Herzog's 'Grizzly Man', and was described by Jarlette Sansmuzch in Die Magazine Nien-Welle as "shockingly intimate, like the grope of a tender pervert". Both are accomplished guitarists, with Jules often taking a leading position on accordion, with accompaniment from Marcus on castanets. Neither musicians, however, are restricted by the instruments they play- each will use any sound medium to gesture toward the possibility of articulating a thought or observation, such as how leaves fall from trees or how motherfuckers often run. They disbanded in late 2011, owing to a dispute over turd lacquering technique. During their time as a group, they recorded only sporadically, preferring the live environment. They are notable in particular for their favouring of double-header rock-and-rumble wrestling gigs, where often the two would strip down to long-johns and duke it out as a tag team against other such luminaries as The Quaye Boys, JHRF and Rob "The Mad Fuck" Mullett. Despite no longer playing as 'The Manifold Curiosity', they still hold the Intercounty Amateur Tag-Team Championship belt, and defend its honour as of Christmas 2011.
