Biography
The New York Powerhouse Ensemble; Mickey Bass's long-running ensemble is hard-bop with fire and soul. Two ace saxophonists - the redoubtable altoist Gary Bartz and tenor Craig Handy - man the front line and this week the rhythm section has a revolving door at the piano, with George Cables coming in on Thursday, followed by Hilton Ruiz on Friday and John Hicks on Saturday. The jumping quintet always lives up to its name.
