<<i love them for changing their name and i think they're wonderful, considerate people!! props to them for being cool and kind and great musicians too >> Careful with that word, 'wonderful'. . how do you think this makes non-wonderful people feel? We must think before speaking! Words have power.

changed their name to POP ETC. This decision came after the band toured extensively and learned that the word "bender" had some homophobic slang connotations in parts of the U.K. In a press release regarding the name change, the band stated "We simply cannot go on using a name that is demeaning to the gay community. The reason we are making music is to reach and unite as many different kinds of people as possible, and the idea that our name may be hateful towards anyone makes us sick." ****************************** Seriously? Have we become this ridiculously hypersensitive? Childish and silly. . . I have no respect for these 'POP ETC' clowns.

I'm still heartbroken over their self destruction. But its true at least the shitty new stuff can be separate from the older, good stuff.

I'm really glad they changed their name with that shitty new album. At least "The Morning Benders" will always seem good to me. Really is a shame though

"people started asking us about our band name. "What does 'Bender' mean to you?" people would ask. "Are you seriously called 'The Morning Benders' ?" was a common question. For those of you reading from America, you may still be confused. Well, it turns out that the word 'bender' in the UK and many parts of Europe is a slang term for 'homosexual.' We were told our band name was the equivalent of 'The Morning Fags' in America. We had been called TMB for 5years "

bender also has another meaning in the UK, meaning 'a long and eventful time drinking alcohol'. for example, what was last saturday night like? "oh man, we went on a bender!" i always imagined the name being like that. start drinking in the morning and go on some silly adventures. if you have seen the hangover (or part 2) that is exactly what 'bender' means in its non-homosexual use

Changing their name was a really bad idea. 'Bender' is a pretty lighthearted term here, and not at all the British equivalent of 'fag'. If you went up to someone's face and yelled in all earnest "YOU FUCKIN' BENDER!!!" you'd be laughed at. It's a word that carries about as much malice as 'gaylord' or some shit.
