The Outta Place was an American garage punk band from New York City, NY formed in 1982 with Mike Chandler, vocals, Jordan Tarlow, guitar, Orin Portnoy, bass, Shari Mirojnik, organ, Andrea Kusten, drums.
Calling themselves "New York's cave teens", The Outta Place released "We're Outta Place" on Midnight Records (NYC) in 1984. It was the first record to ever come out of the N.Y.C. garage psych punk scene. Later, Rhino would dub this music "Children of Nuggets". It preceded the Vipers and Fuzztones singles by nine months. The 45rpm LP hit number 1 in the alternative charts in Italy, France, and Holland, and received stellar reviews in the U.K., U.S. and Canada.
Mike Chandler died in 2018.
