There is more than one artist with this name:
1. a Washington D.C.-based folk duo active from the early 1980s until the early 1990s.
2. a San Diego rock band formed in 2007
3. an Amsterdam-based rock band
1. Like Goliards of old, The Pheromones criss-crossed North America in the 1980s and 90s, lampooning the local clergy and constabulary and anyone else who fell into their satirical cross-hairs. From the epicenter of chicanery and peccadillious depravity, Washington, D.C., the 'Mones took on the right wing, the arms industry, lawyers, yuppies and the makers of non-dairy coffee creamers, with hilarious songs, gaffs, jokes, and pink balloons. Theirs was the serious business of American-style free speech and satire. They called it Pop-Relevant Cabaret because they used pop musical themes to write and perform relevant songs in a cabaret setting.
The Pheromones are infamous for songs such as "Yuppie Drone," "L-L-Liberal," "This Speech is Free," "Shy Kidneys," "(It Ain't Easy Bein') Green" and "The Supreme Court" and have spread their Loyal Opposition all across the globe.
Jimmy and Alvis Pheromone (twin brothers whose parents were killed in a media blitz) performed upwards of 200 nights a year, recorded 4 major albums, 8 music videos, and their independent sound reached around the world. If you missed them, shame on you (not having been born yet is no excuse). Their music is now more pop-relevant than ever! Watch this space for more from the 'Mones! And see for yourself that laughter and music can, and will, change the world!
2. The Pheromones are based out of San Diego, California, United States. Influences include The Allman Brothers, The Doobie Brothers, The Meters, Little Feat, Cream, The Derek Trucks Band, Allen Toussaint, PBS, The Band, Jeff Beck, Curtis Mayfield, Bill Withers, Robert Cray, Joe Cocker, Black Crowes, Galactic, Dumpstaphunk, Wilco, Sly & The Family Stone, J.J. Cale and the obvious, Beatles, Pink Floyd, Stones, Stevie Wonder, Pearl Jam, Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, Hendrix, The Who, Eric Clapton.
3. Amsterdam's The Pheromones named themselves after those tempting little chemical lures. The band saw the light of night after a coincidental meeting in the infamous Sound Garden café in Amsterdam. It wasn’t long before they decided to form a raw rock band. 'Stronger' was one of the first tracks they wrote together: a catchy rock track almost instantly picked up by MTV and Dutch radio station 3FM. Their song was used in the trailer of Californication, the popular Comedy Central series starring David Duchovny as Hank Moody. Talk about rock ‘n roll. Early 2016 The Pheromones signed with Quizzical Smile, a brand-new label brought to life with one purpose only: to make The Pheromones great. Their début album, entitled Lost In Amsterdam was released in 2017.
