This song is used to great effect in Fassbinder's 1972 film "The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant".

One of those songs that reminds me of the things my childhood was filled with, with older parents around this was on some of the few old cds we had floating around. and we didn't honestly have much. good song.

1965, Labuan, Borneo. Under house arrest for something I was, by the way not guilty of. I learned all the words to this and most of the Platters songs.

Herb Reed, the last of the original Platters died today 6/5/12 - age 83 - saw Herb live 30, 20 and 10 years ago - and loved the Platters long before that! Hail Herb - the end of an era that will never be replicated! Teakman of Boston

What a great song! So may songs have too many balf-baked metaphors chasing themselves throughout the lyrics (*cough* Rolling In The Deep *cough*) and in this song one idea is explored to different effect in each verse. Brilliant writing.
