The Record Winter is a band from California comprised of members hailing from what was once a thriving San Jose music scene, and founding member Dominic Miranda is still working to keep that scene alive. Stemming from his former start-up effort, Avenues, he chiseled his song writing skills into a finely crafted work of art in which he seems to have perfected within this new found ensemble, where he helms the titles of Vocal frontman and guitarist.

Originally, The Record Winter started out more along the lines of a “solo-project” for Miranda under the moniker The What Ifs, when a drastic course of events began it’s metamorphosis. Dominic found it necessary to acquire a drummer for his song-smithing and hired on the talents of an old friend Matthew Hastings. They slaved away for months writing and recording what would now be known as the EP “People in Repair”, which was released independently under The What Ifs designation. By the time of its release, however, Dominic had also attracted the attention of a couple other members from the San Jose music scene, another old friend, James Trujillo ex- Maida / Keeping Ellis bassist, as well as old band-mate and guitarist Steven Sczepanik of Avenues.

The acquisition of these three musicians fully rounded out the realization of what Dominic had been trying to encompass with his past efforts, and the slow but steady transition began to take a beautiful effect. The sound of The Record Winter began to evolve in a way much like a painting evolves from oil & canvas, to an image of expression put forth from the soul of an artist. The representation of the voice being created from these artists was still somewhat lacking, and they felt a need to visually portray it in order to fully grasp its impact, and hence came artist/painter Sean Sczepanik to idealize this with his “live” paintings during performances of the band, thus making him the final piece of the puzzle.

The Record Winter strive to pursue music as an art form and create original and thought-provoking work, while maintaining the ability to uphold its “artistic” integrity.
