Biography
Haunting Los Angeles, California, The Rhythm Coffin is a rag-tag collection of monster misfits that play Monster Rock-N-Roll. Imagine if the B-52's, Rocky Horror Picture Show and various old school, late-night monster movie television hosts, rife with puns neck bolts, were all thrown into a woodchipper. What spewed out the other side would be The Rhythm Coffin. Fun, tongue-in-cheek lyrics and a retro-brach-horror-pop sound make them the perfect band for your midnight bats-on-the-beach party for your cool ghouls.
They just released their first full-length album, "Hey! Let's go! Monster Rock-N-Roll" in late June, 2009.
The style of music The Rhythm Coffin plays can best be described as “Monster Rock-n-Roll“. While using bits and pieces from many influences, the Coffin mainly derives its sound from "old-skull ghoul-time-Rock-n-Roll" with an echo of classic rock mixed in. Lyrically their songs range from instructional dance songs–think cooler, more undead versions of "The Hokey Pokey"–to spooktastic stories of life as a ghoul, and experiences from Monsterville. If you’re a fan of Alice Cooper, KISS, or The Rocky Horror Picture Show, you're probably already a fan, even if you don't realize it yet.
The Rhythm Coffin has been affectionately dubbed the B-52s of the Horror Rock scene. Although an unlikely fit, it's a title they wear with pride. As frontman Gruesome Gereg, himself, puts it, "We want you up and dancing to our songs! We are a fun band, that is serious about having a 'ghoul time'!"
Lead vocals are shared by Gruesome Gereg and Eerie Emma with spooktacular back up vocals provided by the Ghoulie Girls–Eerie Emma and her partner in grime, Scarrie Carrie. Ghoul Hectic keeps the undead beat on drums, Rotting Roger gives you the thunder from six feet under on his six string bass–each string representing a foot of dirt he dug himself out of to emerge from his grave." Gruesome Gereg swings the axe, and Haunted Harold on his Hammond Organ keeps the go-go groove going ghoulishly on.
