Smoking weed and putting some TRoB on with good noise cancelling headphones is one of my absolute favorite anti-social behaviors.

My biggest musical discovery of the last two years. Crazy how good this band is, with each album sounding so different from the others while still being so great. And it's all made by one man. Incredible.

I imagine they cant figure out how to remaster some of the old stuff. Foulest semen especially would sound pretty weird with spotify compression and boosted low freqs. Still the best tho

Why are some albums on streaming and not others? I was making a playlist of my favorite black metal albums, and was bummed that I didn't see Unlock the Shrine or Blood Vaults on there

If you turn the lower frequencies on these records up enough rumours say it will help with constipation.

Spotify likes to recommend short tracks when you're listening on shuffle (commonly, when you listen to some album and after it's over the algorithm shuffles tracks similar to it). This track is short and it's from their most famous album, sooo... yeah, kinda netflix way. It is interesting that I am that guy who discovered this band due to this "feature" (don't remember why I decided to run the whole album after this 1-minute interlude)

Spotify has a bad habit of making whole playlists with nothing but intro and outro songs. I discovered that after putting one on at work one day.

You can definitely hear in Gris' timeless classic Il était une forêt... some TROB influence, but no UTS is not DSBM in the slightest. It takes music and turns it into a tapestry of just pure apocalyptic doom as it transcends into the void of black metal. Both doom and black really just weave and intermix in a way that is no way depressing, but just an absolute sense of defeat as everything crumbles.

Yea ruins def arent associated with dsbm at all. Alot of their doom stuff is inspired by bands like Runemagick and probably some funeral doom.

I could see that in the early albums. The last two have more like a transcendental vibe than a depressive one though.

I seriously cannot decide if Rain Upon the Impure or Exuvia is my favorite album. Both albums are so unique and both take you on a journey that you get lost in. Both albums are perfect.

Nah. Meilenwald has his vista that he paints well each time. They honestly flow like a symphony in a sense. Both are equal. All of his albums are fantastic. Foulest Semen is simply my least favorite, as it is a stellar album.

I respect it. I'm also a prog guy, so I don't mind good production, as long as it doesn't take away. Nothing truly can beat a raw atmospheric black metal experience. I'd have to disagree that he has become formulaic. He has definitely cut fat, but I'd argue, that at the amount he has cut, that it's not in those levels yet. He constantly changes tweaks his style into different aspects of his black/doom fusion. Both Rain Upon the Impure are equal as my favorite album. Both of them are absolutely amazing musical experiences for very different reasons. Foulest Semen's production is just a pure doom production, as that is more of a doom with black elements instead of black with doom elements. The production fits the style, However Blood Vaults as Funeral Doom with touches of black is fucking gorgeous in how rich, heavy and dirty it is, yet still beautiful. It's obvious you don't like the direction and I do, though I really would love a return to roots in a new light.

It might be the murky production so you wouldnt be able to tell but Rain Upon the Impure is downtuned aswell.

The Thule Grimoires is undoubtedly Meinenwalds tightest and most refined album. The absolute best thing about it is nothing is sacrificed in the process. He still maintains a perfect discography.

Across the whole discography. Meinenwald proves 4 things. One, that he is consistent. 2 he is able to self criticize. 3 he is always looking to try something different. 4 he is constantly evolving. I can easily say he is now going to be a favorite artist for a very long time. I cant wait to see what he does next.

The more I listen to Blood Vaults, the more I question how it is so underrated. The whole album reminds me of a soundtrack to a brutal, atmospheric and extremely well written 80s historical-fiction movie. The first track plays like many late 70s-80s movies that have a expositional read before the movie begins to setup the story then Daemon plays like a corrupted Christian durge that sets up the antagonist of the story and each song just expands upon what came before . There are so many gorgeous movements, melodies on the album that really makes me wish there was a 10th track like a ending credits where the best melodies and movements on the album were compiled and rewritten together into their own coda for the whole album. Meilenwald really put together a special album that sadly seems to be swept over in favor of many of his other albums. Putting that aside its a absolutely amazing Funeral Doom album. The man is truly one of the best songwriters in extreme metal

I need to give it another chance at some point. Of the entire catalog, I love the dreamy textures and complex layering and sonic diversity in Exuvia and The Thule Grimoires the most, so Blood Vaults feels one-dimensional in comparison. It's also a bit slow-moving, the compositions take a while to make their point. but I have a feeling I might like the album more if I give it more time.

I'd definitely give it another shot. It's a pure funeral doom album, however it is still rich and textured,

While Exuvia and Blood Vaults it's what got me into TRoB lately i've been rediscovering his early stuff and holy fuck, i can't really imagine how a single person can compose and record all this.

This new album actually beat out Cult Of Luna for my possible AOTY, and Cult Of Luna is my favorite band. So... good job there.
