Biography

The Sidewalk were an instrumental band from Berlin, Germany. Influenced by artists as diverse as Pink Floyd, John Lee Hooker, James Brown and Miles Davis they played a fusion of jazz, blues and funk.

The band was founded in the fall of 2006 by Tobias Riedel (drums) and William Schellenberg (keyboards, guitar). They soon were joined by Nhat Tuyen Vo Dieu (saxophone) and Kai Pauldrach (bass) calling themselves The Happy Hookers. After a few local gigs Malte Brieske (trumpet) was added to the line-up in the spring of 2007 and the band changed its name to The Sidewalk. In November of the same year the band recorded their debut album "Friday the 13th", which was distributed at the MEDICA in Düsseldorf, where they also played.

Sadly this happened to be the last major event in the band's history. After a final gig in the summer of 2008 The Sidewalk disbanded. As of 2010 Schellenberg and Pauldrach play in the rock band Out of Order, Vo Dieu is one fourth of jazz outfit Zinker Kofel Zinker.
