I really like the music and it sounds great, but Billy's singing has lost something vital to the Pumpkins. It's probably easier for him to sing this way and it saves his vocal chords, but as a listener I'm disappointed. The magic isn't there anymore. You could hear it already on Zeitgeist, sure, but it was not as pronounced there. Oceania, despite being a good record, is for me the turning point. This is where the Pumpkins lost it. I'm also not a fan of the lyrics here. Billy should look in to hiring a singer and a lyricist, because he can still write a mean song when he wants to. But what do I know?

Why should he write a mean song if he doesn't want to? He's honestly too happy nowadays to write anything like that and be convincing. Besides, Oceania is way better than Zeitgeist IMO and it sounds just fantastic. Violet Rays has some of my favorite vocal sections too in the bridge!

"Mean" meant "good", it's an idiom. And please don't get me wrong, Billy should absolutely do what he relates with. It's just not really my cup of tea. But Zeitgeist is better than Oceania, though they are very different experiences. Both are good.

Oh :D it was a funny idiom in this case because their music has also been kind of mellowed down from what it was in the 90s. Mutta kiva havaita että muitakin suomalaisia Pumpkins-faneja löytyy :D

Awful. What was Corgan thinking? Maybe something along the lines of... "Yea it's pretty bad but hopefully it'll still make me some money"

I don't really know what to say about this album. It's just okay, I guess. I don't hate it. It isn't Zeitgeist.

sounds like machina stuff, which holy shit, I wanted more of anyway. yeah there's ideas splashed around in songs they don't do anything with them. it's nice, smashing pumpkins has always had a wealth of ideas, I like to hear them.

Great return to form IMO. Quasar, Oceania and Pale Horse are up they with the best.

I definitely love this album. It's got a magical quality to it, but a new kind to the old magic. Not to say it's overtaken any of my old faves from 2000 on backwards. But it still is up there pretty high. and yes, Panopticon <3 <3 <3 <3 x infinity

This album makes me very sad, because it made me understand that the Pumpkins are dead.

It changes directions a lot, and that bugs the hell out of me. I like Billy being experimental and trying new things, but don't do it under the pumpkins name.

This thing just kind of sucks. Is there one song where Billy doesn't use "love", "lovers", etc.? The lyrics are just so inane and a lot of the musical choices are out of place. It's frustrating because a lot of the songs have good parts or ideas or riffs (like Inkless), but they almost always find a way to screw it up. As much as I wanted to believe this was going to be great, the hype was wrong. It's the weakest Pumpkins release by a good margin.

I have 313 scrobbles for this album so far... compared with 175 for Zeitgeist since 2007. Innnteresting. Though of course there are the bonus versions of ZG, but I only play the bonus tracks off those...

Rather boring compared to the first four in my opinion. Allmusic.com has this in the list of top 50 albums in 2012 - I definitely don't agree!

"It's their personal Dark Side Of The Moon..." Just copy/pasting this to prove that I'm not seeing things :-p

Absolutely love the album.... so pleased Billy has almost freed himself of expectation (fan and personal) and legacy he created with SP in the past (i.e. Zeitgeist). He seems happier, free to create music and emote exactly the way he wants without thinking about it too much (i.e. TheFutureEmbrace)

Still not into this album at all, but I'm glad other SP fans can get into it.
