Biography
Years ago, a rock frontman – fleeting. Yesterday, a folk introvert – hiding. Today, he is a poetic piano man.
The Sun Harmonic is a 21st century musician, and genre spanning songwriter, who resides in Toronto Canada. The moniker belongs to Kaleb Hikele, who has released a selection of 8 Winter Songs on a new record called After We Fly. His fourth studio album was released on the 10th of March. These songs were chosen from a larger project that revolves around his first love – and the instrument that inspired his musical mind – the piano. This conceptual double album is a big idea with a simple name – Winter.
He lives by a single word philosophy… Listen.
Kaleb is an artist who wears many hats, woven from the influence of classical piano and folk style guitar; stemming from a record collection of jazz, soul and rock vinyl. His songs have been shared with Canadians during his recent East Coast Tour in the spring of 2014, as well as being played across the country on various campus and commercial radio stations. Kaleb spends his waking hours on stage performing his original music, or in his own studio, experimenting with new genres and instrumentation.
The Sun Harmonic reinvented himself in the recording studio throughout the winter of 2014. Kaleb faced a songwriting assignment which he has been composing, only during the winter season, for the past four years. It has lead to his new body of work – 22 piano songs with one vision – his truest artistic statement to date. The revisiting of Kaleb’s earliest classical roots are put to the test on this concept album, while his art of songwriting is inspired by many other musical branches that continue to grow.
You could say he is a musical explorer, who is always searching for his next recording adventure, challenge or artistic outlet. As The Sun Harmonic, he has released a self titled album, followed by two full length LP’s called Chemistry and Season. But after their release in 2010, a few years passed where he would only demo any new material and share his songs on stages across Ontario.
If you research his involvement in other musical tangents, you will find: The Broadview Band, The Other Birds, The Capitol, Far From Freedom, the ongoing rock project The Joker & The King and Hikele's collection of "Demonstrations" - et cetera…
The Sun Harmonic is a prolific artist who has kept a constant output of diverse recordings since 2004. Off stage, he operates a home recording space in the heart of downtown Toronto, where he and his friends create folk, rock, blues and soul sounds that have rippled around the globe. Kaleb is also a piece of the puzzle in the suitcase record shop and arts community called Moon Melody.
In the past, a rock musician – day dreaming. In the present, an aspiring piano man – for the masses. In the future, he is a record – forever spinning…
