There are more than one artist by the name "The Thing":
1) The rock band from New York City formed in 2022.
2)The Norwegian/Swedish jazz band established in 2000.
1) The Thing is a four piece rock and roll band from New York City consisting of Lucas Ebeling (Drums), Jack Bradley (Guitar + Vocals), Michael Carter (Guitar + Vocals) and Zane Acord (Bass + Lead Vocals). Their influences span generations and styles and includes bands like The Kinks, Brian Jonestown Massacre, and The Black Keys. Their debut LP, Here’s the Thing, was self-recorded by the band in Zane’s childhood home in Sharon, CT and in Jack’s studio in Brooklyn. The month after it was released, the band recorded their second album, The Thing Is, their first with Lucas on drums.
2)The Thing is a Norwegian/Swedish jazz band, consisting of Mats Gustafsson (saxophones), Ingebrigt Håker-Flaten (double bass), and Paal Nilssen-Love (drums).
The trio was established in February 2000 during a series of concerts in Stockholm and a recording of Don Cherry-compositions that was released in Sweden by the label Crazy Wisdom/Universal. Melding German, British and American traditions of free music, their repertoire has later been collected from various sources such as James Blood Ulmer, Frank Lowe, PJ Harvey, White Stripes, Lightning Bolt and Joe McPhee. McPhee was also a participating musician on the "She Knows…" album (2001).
"Garage" was released on the Smalltown Superjazzz label in 2004. An EP of live material performed with Joe McPhee and Cato Salsa Experience was released in 2005, as well as a live album.
