Biography
Rising from the smoky ashes of Disthrone, Through Rose-Tinted Glasses and Prophecy of Plagues, The Tide Will Take Us is a progressive melodic deathcore band named for the murky, volatile Georgian Bay waters the Wasaga Beach 5-piece call home. Formed by guitarists Mike Longeri and Jesse Carter via an impromptu debaucherous post-concert jam, the duo soon had drummer Dave Hilder, bassist Taylor Riley and vocalist Matt Cola on board to plaster on their signature layers of grit and sludge to the melodic tunes they were churning out.
In just over one year together as a band, The Tide Will Take Us have already earned a reputation for their out of control, animalistic, musically tight and uncompromising live sets, and are in the process of recording a full-length album to follow up their self-titled 5-song debut EP, produced by Kent Sheehey (The Vegas Wake Up).
"We've all done the band thing before, so none of this is new to us, except that everyone's on the same page in terms of drive and vision and execution," says Longeri.
This bands' "harmony" is immediately audible from the second the EP's first track, "Sodom," rips, pounds and rages through your ears. Song names like "Mouth Breather," "Haunting The Throne Of Kings," "Concubine Queen," and "Metastasize & Consume" reach to the deepest, darkest abscesses of the listener's' brain before even a single note sounds and conjures grotesque imagery, whose sonic counterparts the band promptly delivers with fury.
"We bring massive breakdowns, melodic guitar solos, intense energy, and, above all, monstrous vocals in our songs. We write form pure emotion - there's a lot of anger, sadness and happiness all at once. We write about things that mean a lot to us - we're not into spewing out the kind of mindless drivel that's become acceptable in current music," asserts Longeri.
With a serious team of supporters in Workhorse Management, The Tide Will Take Us are already in the studio with Jon Howard (Threat Signal) laying down tracks for their full-length album, have a video in the works, offer killer, one-of-a-kind merch at shows that's selling faster than they can produce it, something few young bands can lay claim to, even after several years together.
"In my mind, I really feel that The Tide is the band my career has been building up to - my past bands were the stepping stones leading to this project," says Cola. "I can't wait to see what the future holds for us."
With plans for a 2012 tour solidifying, Workhorse plans to make good on its name and keep The Tide Will Take Us busy and in your face.
"We're making the music we love to calm the beast inside all of us," the band agrees.
