"Like so many bands toiling away in South Jersey, the Vanities tend to fly under the hipster radar. This is actually their fourth full-length, and far and away the bands most accomplished work yet. The Vanities mix elements of glam, grunge, and post-punk with sonic experimentalism akin to Mike Pattons post-Faith No More bands. While the bands capable of a straight-ahead raunch rocker like Tilt, much of Coma Kiss finds the band experimenting with atonal chord changes, polyrhythmic beats (the opening to No Vacancy undulates like Janes Addiction on crystal meth,) unusual guitar tones, and screeching vocals. The band likes to throw a recognizable tidbit at you like the bluesy slide guitar that opens Mementos On A Noose and then take the song in a totally different direction. Diehard popsters will no doubt get a headache from this, but for more adventurous listeners, the Vanities offer a challenging collection of deftly constructed soundscapes as well as top-notch musicianship."
