Biography

2001 - 2011

THE WILD FRONTIER is from Sydney’s inner-west, forming in 2001 out of the high school friendship of David Mackie (guitar/vocals) and Christopher Mayes (guitar/vocals). In 2006 THE WILD FRONTIER grew into a five-piece to include: Stephen Mansfield (bass), Leon Spencer (drums) and Philippa Vaughan (keys/vocals). Drawing on influences such as Nick Cave, The Byrds, and Lambchop, THE WILD FRONTIER has developed a sound likened to Beach House, Elvis Perkins and Arcade Fire.

Following five years of recording and performing as a duo Christopher and David recognized the need to draw on like-minded musicians and form a band. In 2006 THE WILD FRONTIER was formed to work on the debut EP ‘I Too Will Tell You What I Know’. Released in 2007 ‘I Too Will Tell You What I Know’ received airplay on Sydney Radio 2Ser and FBi. Following a year of gigging THE WILD FRONTIER returned to the rehearsal studio to begin writing UNTIL THE DAY BREATHES their first full length album.

UNTIL THE DAY BREATHES demonstrates the diversity and subtlety of Christopher and David’s songwriting. With greater use of Philippa Vaughan’s powerful yet pure vocal performances UNTIL THE DAY BREATHES is a rich and well-crafted album that will reward the attentive listener with new shades and nuances emerging with each listen. THE WILD FRONTIER has created an album that spans across genres such as the dream-pop of FOR YOU, the apocalyptic-rock of THE HEAVENS ARE ON FIRE, and the June Carter and Johnny Cash inspired country duet MY FRIEND CALLED TOM.

The Wild Frontier are an interesting and well loved band that like warm fires, cuddles and belly rubs.
