Biography
The Wubbos take over the World in 2008
The Wubbos are relatively new band from Groningen (The Netherlands) and are on the verge of conquering the world. The year 2008 will definitely be ‘The year of The Wubbos’ (as is written in old Chinese history books) so keep your eyes and ears wide open for this musical quartet from the Lowlands.
These four friends from the most beautiful town this small country has have been playing for one and a half year now. Well, back then they started off as a three piece, but since we’ve found our very huggable and sexy Teake we can’t live or play without him anymore.
The Wubbos stand for a eclectic mix of jazz, indie, Latin and a bit of Hot’n Steamy Teenage Pop. Sander’s drums take rhythm to a whole new level, and Annes bass lines really make you party like it’s nineteen ninety-nine. On top of it, add a good-looking (Think of Enrique Iglesias mixed together with Brad Pitt), well trained vocalist like Harmen, and you’re in for the Good Times!
(You wouldn’t hire a clown to fix a leak in the john, would you?)
On the 18th of January The Wubbos released their first EP entitled ‘The Songs,’ (Abbreviation of ‘Songs that Sound Good in your Bathroom’) and from there on they will do whatever it takes to take over the music business. You Bet!
The Wubbos were formed April 2006 and are now slowly working their way up to the top. With help from organisations such as Leensweb.nl and Popas they managed to get several gigs all over The Netherlands. The Wubbos record a demo titled: Songs that sound good in your bathroom. Not only are they claiming to sound good in the bathroom, they actually do sound good in someone's bathroom. They have already done two Bathroom Concerts (to promote the Leensweb.nl Music is Fun festival).
They started as a band who played half covers and half self-written songs, but as a year passed, they have written more and more songs themselves such as the bombastic Counterfeit and Land of the Free, but also very danceable tracks as Summertime and Off the Cliffs and Madam i'm Adam. The most important thing about The Wubbos is that they're very dedicated to music and they have lots of fun making it. When you visit a Wubbos concert you will not only get a musical and impressive performance, but also a very interactive and fun gig.
Their musical influences go from Indie to Punk, from Lo-Fi to Pop and everything in between. Most significant is that it's mostly a Piano-based sound in which the rhythm section plays a big part as well. The Wubbos are trying to create an original sound, with unpredictable, but easy to follow rhythms and varied, melodic and lyrical songs. The piano is sometimes used to stabilise a melody, and sometimes to create a bombastic and furious sound.
So check out this unique sound and become a fan!
Cheers, The Wubbos
