Biography

Formed during the summer of 2003, the Yorkies began in the London tube as an experiment in a cappella techno performance. Virtuosic basses Chris Lynch and Sam duPont brought together a group of Phillips Academy actors on tour in Great Britain, who decided to name themselves after the British candy bar advertised as "Not for Girls." The group made the jump across the Atlantic that fall, reforming with a new line-up assembled by Lynch and duPont, and established themselves as Andover's only all-male a cappella group.

The Yorkies pride themselves as much on providing an entertaining show as performing top-notch music, and in their first year, they made a splash on campus covering such hits as Rockapella's "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?" and Davinci's Notebook's "Enormous Penis."

Since the graduation of the founders, the group has thrived, honing their musical talents and welcoming new members. Along with Phillips Academy girls a cappella group Azure, the Yorkies recorded their first album during the spring of 2005, XX/XY. Additionally, their rendition of "The Sweetest Thing" is featured on the 2006 "Best of High School A Cappella" (BOHSA) CD.
