Biography
The Zany Woodruff Operation was a short-lived British R&B / soul group from West Yorkshire, United Kingdom.
They came together in late 1966, having evolved out of Satan & The Disciples and The Tonebenders. They recorded in October 1966 in the following line-up: Pete Sewell (guitar), Graham Lockwood (organ), Russ Walker (saxophone), Kenny Rooke (bass, vocals) and Martin Garside (drums), with Tony Light (trumpet) and Andrea Hanson (vocals, backing) also having stints in the group in 1967.
The band embraced psychedelic rock in 1967 and recorded a string of cover versions that year, including 'Harlem Shuffle', Jimi Hendrix's 'Fire', a version of 'You Keep Me Hangin' On' that followed the Vanilla Fudge rock arrangement and Cream's B-side, 'Tales of Brave Ulysses'.
