Biography
Thermostat got together in the spring of 2005 to write music people would get excited about. They had one their first competition within three weeks. The punk-rock quartet are all accomplished musicians, playing in ensembles as diverse as folk groups and jazz bands. The breadth of each member's musical knowledge gives the band a lot to play around with, but depsite the classical training they have all had, they still consider rock their musical home. Thermostat has three singers; Front man Chris Howe (lead guitar), Drummer Tim Briggs and Bassist Michael O'Neill, with the redoubtable Alan Cruickshank (rhythm guitar/trombone) making up to four. This lends them style which often uses lines sung by different members to highlight the not infrequently witty lyrics. While recording on a session sponsored by Bright Young Things, a prestigious Leeds-based competition, Thermostat were compared to bands such as Sum 41 and Reel Big Fish and even an "underground" McFly because of their tight harmonies and general demeanour.
