Biography
Thunder and Roses,
an early power trio from Philadelphia USA, recorded "King of the Black Sunrise" in 1969. This garage rock album is a hard rockin', ultra heavy, Hendrix-inspired, slab of bluesy psychedelia. Track one, the classic "White Lace and Strange", was covered by Nirvana in a radio broadcast that is included on their box set "With The Lights Out".
Though the group's listed record label "Lizard" might well be an appropriate name, in reality this album was released by United Artists Records.
Chris Bond went on to play for and produce Hall & Oates. There are some real good songs that he did as a solo arists that were released by Polydor, but long out of print. There are also some unreleased things that are better than the Thunder & Roses LP.
King of the Black Sunrise was selected by Philadelphia Weekly Magazine as one of the top 50 albums of all time produced in Philadelphia.
