Biography
Thuunderboy! is actually Ted Conrad, son of famed minimalist composer/violinist Tony Conrad (who worked with New York musicians such as John Cale, La Monte Young, and others in the early 1960s). Ted was born in 1971, shortly before the family moved to Buffalo, where Tony accepted a teaching position. At the age of two, the younger Conrad learned to operate a turntable. Instead of correcting his son's mistakes with the technology, Tony recorded him. Between April 1973 and January 1974, Tony captured several of his son's explorations on the contraption (which still had several years to go before being recognized as an instrument). The musique concrète-sounding results were issued by the Table of Contents label as Thuunderboy! in 2002, very much in the tradition of much contemporary classical music.
