Biography
Tim Nielsen is a singer/guitarist/songwriter. You can hear subltle reflections in his playing from Jimi Hendrix, Pat Metheny, Eric Clapton, to Earl Klugh and Chet Atkins and Carlos Santana. Tim's music is of a spiritual nature as he draws upon life experiences for his subject matter.
He is a veteran performer, and has released four very well received CD's entitled "Light Years", "109 East McKey St.", "Brutha Niel", and his latest "Indigenous." Known to other musicians as "Brutha Niel" Tim fronts a versatile group known as "Brutha Niel and the Real Deal."
He has played with several other groups that have showcased his original material, Southpaw, No Foolin, and Blues 4 Soul. In these groups he has shared the bill with such established performers as The Little River Band, The Steve Miller Band, Jimmy Buffet, Louisiana's LeRoux, 38 Special, Molly Hatchet, The Georgia Satellites, The Beach Boys, Jimmy Thackery and the Drivers and many others.
He has a wealth of experience to draw from. Ronnie "Bird" Foster, long time drummer with Roy Buchanan and bandmate of Tim, refers to Tim Nielsen as "Orlando's Best Kept Secret."
Barry Dean, long time bass player from Brian Auger's Oblivion Express is a guest artist on "Light Years" CD as well as Mike Galloway from the Midnight Creepers on harp.
"109 E. McKey St." is a collection of dreamy instrumental renderings of his life at home with his family and friends. He is an excellent versatile guitarist, but never lets his virtuosity overshadow his thoughtful compositions.
"Ghosts", his latest work, is a group of songs that work together to tell stories about things that have happened to people in the past. The setting of all songs is in the South, where Tim has lived his entire life. The songs are about lost loves, dutiful sons, torn down landmarks, freight trains, mysterious lovers, rusty cars, and the ever present change brought on by the relentless development of Tim's homeland. Although the musical performance is excellent, more emphasis was put on the lyrical content of these songs, attempting to keep production to a minimum. The goal was to have it sound like musicians playing for the love of the music and for self expression, not to win an "American Idol" contest.
"Indigenous" is maybe his best work to date. He is a native southerner and it reflects musical and cultural influences that exist in the southeastern United States. The CD song topics also mirror a southern culture that unfortunately is waning as the United States becomes more homogenized. Fortune and fame are not the ultimate goals for Tim. He performs and records solely for the art of trying to express himself through his music and lyrics. He continues to develop this craft. He is an extraordinary guitarist and that instrument is here tastefully represented. INDIGENOUS-originating in and characterizing a particular region or country;native, innate, natural
