you don't need a deep philosophical understanding of a song to appreciate the sound of it. sucks that they don't read into the layers of symbolism in "Hooker with a Penis", but I feel worse for the people who have never heard it.

Yeah lol. It's just that this page only displays 3 tracks on it, which is likewise to an EP.

Not sure if this is my favorite album from them, but this kind of 90s, rundown VHS-tape psychedelic aesthetic, like hearing it from an old TV, is kind of what I always think about whenever I think of Tool. I think this is their most definitive blueprint as what this band is all about, even if they'd change a lot over the next few albums.

Man isn't it weird that one time you listen to an album and you're totally indifferent to it, and then after a few months you put it back again and boom, you fall in love with it? I've been listening to a few Tool songs here and there for about 3 or 4 years now. But today is the day I really got into them.

One of those records that words just barely manage to explain just how awesome it is. The atmosphere-building in this album is done to perfection. Songwriting is perfect. I love the use of intermission tracks to further create suspense and carry the album's narrative forward. I must have first listened to this record close to some 10 years ago now and I still love it to bits.

This album masters an atmosphere both dark, furious and beautiful and is harmonically, rhythmically and lyrically perfect. Never heard something like this ever again.

Really odd how this manages to be so unique and still sound like a 90's album all at once.

Когда тока начинал знакомство с альбомом, где то в середине чисто из уважения, в последние секунды кончал не на монитор с треклистом, а себе в рот, так, тупа уважать такие альбомы надобна, и места на шконаре уступать без вопросов излишних так сказать.

Such an amazing album. Probably my favorite from Tool with Lateralus as close second. Kinda depends on the mood. Everything released by Tool are pretty much masterpieces!

Both albums are amazing but Ænima will always be my favorite. That era of the band in my opinion was their best.

Miles ahead of Undertow (and the Opiate EP). So much more sophisticated and intelligent sounding, with several of the best songs of their career ("Stinkfist," "H.," "Third Eye," "Ænema," "Forty Six & 2") and a unique atmosphere. I remember when this came out and I'd listen to it and read about it (The Tool FAQ on Kabir's "The Tool Page"); there seemed to be a lot of secrets and mysteries about it waiting to be deciphered (this was back when the band did very little press and there was no such thing as Twitter, so everything about every artist wasn't easy to track down and broadcast all over the Internet). I think they surpassed this one with Lateralus, but this is still a special album that stands as one of the better records of the "Alternative Metal"/Progressive Metal genre.
