Formative record for me. Can't not listen to it all the way through whenever I get the itch to listen to one of the tracks.

For me, it's their weakest album, WFM I hold in high regard but everything else is in the album is quite a bit of a drop off. Not that I'm hating on the appreciation of it by anyone else.

There are shining sections of parts of songs that I do appreciate from 10k. I just remembered this convo because wfm started playing randomly (which is awesome). Mainly coming back because to clarify that my statement doesn't include their latest release from a few years ago. Not actively refraining from listening to and should probably add it to my library. Not that anyone actually cares about what I'm typing about but felt compelled to clarify.

I wish they had more ballad-type tracks like that one, right now all we have is Intension, Culling Voices, and Disposition

Is it that bad? I haven't listened to this album, only Undertow, Fear Inoculum and Lateralus so far. How bad is it?

The production kinda fucks it up, it's all compressed to hell, you can't make out half the sounds and it often heavily clips. A giant step back from Lateralus in terms of production, where every instrument is clear and discernible AND IT DOES NOT FUCKING CLIP on nearly every song.

I don't think it's as good as Lateralus, but it's a worthy follow-up, Rosetta Stoned, Jambi and the two-part "Wings" suite are all among the best work Tool has ever done, IMO. I saw the band on the tour for this record and it was the best of the three Tool shows I've seen by far.

It's frustrating how hit and miss this is. Definitely has some of their all time best songs (the ones you nailed), but has a lot of filler too.

Agreed. I think they could've lost 3-4 tracks and the result would've been a really tight, consistently engaging 45 minute album rather than the standard 80 minute opus that has some duffers. I would basically be fine with everything after "Rosetta Stoned" being excised, and the record would certainly be no worse for wear if "Lipan Conjuring" was dropped. And while "The Pot" is a pretty good song in its own right, it just feels out of place here to me; maybe it could've been released separately as a single or the lead track on an EP or something. If the track list went Vicarious -> Jambi -> Wings for Marie -> 10,000 Days -> Lost Keys -> Rosetta Stoned it would be just a killer listening experience.

It is a piece of art, I agree with that. And its so heavy and still aggressive as all albums with Tool, which make me angry. I love Tool for that. 9/10

Tool's most moving and emotional experience by far. Every second of this album is a masterpiece.

Strange how this album is probably their slowest but I find it to be their most interesting record.

This was my favourite album of their due to my depression episodes in that times probably. But still... this is different. Very intimate. Heavier. Atmospheric. Full of grief. I recall now John Frusciante's words about his own album "Empyrean" that it is music to played very loud in dark living rooms. I feel something like this about 10.000 days. I associate this with sitting lonely, separated from the others, contemplating my own melancholic shit. Or not even thinking. Just being drowned in this atmosphere.

The last album by Tool? I mean they had tale over 9 years since they did an album. Or do they making music that take long time?

I'm one of those people who thinks 10,000 Days seems more like Lateralus leftovers oppose to a whole new take on a record.

It is a good record and it has the right elements to be a proper Tool album, but for some reason i don't feel i have developed a strong inspiring connection over the years to its music and lyrics, unlike Lateralus or Ænima IMHO. I really, really hope Tool's next record to be better than 10,000 days.

I get it now, from when this album was released, it will be 10,000 days until the next one is released.

Some people think this album just re-hashes Lateralus...I think those people need to listen closer, it's an entirely unique part of Tool's discography!

I was disappointed when I bought it on the day of release but it's a slow grower, took over a year to get into it. This album comes off as inspired and legitimate artistic progression, not retro-kitch a la recent Opeth.
