There are so many mind-blowingly great songs on this disc. I've always thought the objections to the arrangements on the For the Sake of the Song record were a little bit oerstated, but there's no question that Townes really hit his stride with the two follow-ups: Our Mother the Mountain and this self-titled one. Very, very few musicians can match the level of songwriting that TVZ was at around this time. The epic death dirge depression anthems like "Waiting Around to Die" and "Lungs" are the ones I tend to most closely associate with Townes, but it's the gorgeous, gentler songs like "Columbine" that really take this record to the next level, I find.

Maybe the best of all of Townes' albums, which is saying a lot considering the consistently high quality of his output around this time.
