Biography
There are at least three artists with the name Umu.
1. A Japanese artist, currently member of the band FREAKYFROG.
2. Siblings Richard and Cecilia Daskas formed Umu in the summer of 2012. The name Umu is derived from the artists’ Samoan heritage and refers to a traditional method of cooking food in an underground pit. Influenced by a wide variety of musical styles. Umu sets out to bring you an innovative and refreshing listening experience in their debut album, “Henri.” When it comes to musical composition, Umu strives to find a balance between order and chance, allowing certain ideas to be more refined than others. Their music can be described as a combination of electronic and popular styles fused together with pointillistic and ambient textures, static tonal centers and a collage of musical thoughts.
In addition to composition and audio production, Richard has created multiple video game projects that incorporate audio interactively. He has fused this interest of video game development with Umu by creating an interactive 3d soundscape in which the player is able to move through and around individually exported audio layers of Umu’s song, “Tempered,” allowing the player to experience a unique and different remix of the song each time.
3. UmU is the blackened grindcore/bestial black metal side-project of Kannnibal from UwU, a goregrind/brutal death metal project from Kingman, Arizona.
