Biography
Varsóvia (Warsaw in portuguese) is a post-punk band from São Paulo, Brazil formed in 1984.
The band started from a conversation between Ivan and other guy, Fábio was willing to join a band so he was invited by Ivan, the line-up at that time was Fábio (vocals), Célio (guitars, keyboards), Betão (drums) and Belson (bass). Together they started to play some songs just to know each other and see what would happen.
In the next year they produced five some songs and recorded them in studio, "Ian'', was one of their hits, but only in october they recorded a demo-tape with two songs: ''Noites'' and ''No Front''. the song “Noites” aired on the alternative rock radio stations of that time (FM 97 St and 89 FM ), which gave recognition and force to the alternative scene. In 1985/1986 they played at some famous venues like Tênis Clube Santo André, SESC Pompéia, Ácido Plástico and Centro Cultural São Paulo.
In april the band signed with Ataque Frontal, a independent label from the city and then released their first album with 10 tracks, some problems with paper for the album artwork delayed the release for six months and only in 1987 it came to the label. The first 1,000 copies of Varsovia album sold out very quickly, and the shops Wop Bop Records and Bossa Nova at the center of Sao Paulo were responsible for the sale of almost half of the sales.
In 2014 the band reunited for rehearsals and played some shows, there is no information about a new album.
