Biography
VOSTOK LAKE is the darkwave-with-a-sense-of-humour project of New Zealand electronic singer-songwriter Daphne Lawless. VOSTOK LAKE's songs contain 80's synth-pop beats, prog-rock inspired keyboard solos and extended song structures, and lyrics which have been described as "bitter, angry performance poetry".
Vostok Lake has been described as:
"Soft Cell does progressive-rock"
"melodramatic electroclash"
"the unholy offspring of hate-sex between Tori Amos and Gary Numan"
"Yazoo meets The Skeptics meets Raw Sex… on speed"
"Stranglers meet Midge Ure on helium" (not sure about that one)
"techno-soul"
"Bonnie Tyler meets Keith Emerson"
"what might have happened if Eric Woolfson had written lyrics for ELP."
"Sort of like Peaches crossed with… er… um…"
