wasted space is a sad punk band currently based in pittsburgh, pennsylvania. born out of bassist and frontperson michaela doorjamb's love for saves the day and wes anderson, the project started as singles recorded and written in their parents' kitchen. they produced all of the instrumentals themself, and even eked out their first album under these conditions. "like summer, but colder" was released on april 10, 2020, during the height of the covid-19 quarantine in america. this album of scrappy suburban pop-punk exploded onto the scene, and was sold on tape by phantom terror records. in july 2020, the project released a new single, "calendar year." the song pivots into a more nuanced, summery emo, and also served as the announcement of the band's move to flea collar tapes.
the project relocated to pittsburgh, where mikey met guitarists mack mcnerney and christian ryder as well as drummer jane herring. they released an ep "exsanguination" on june 21, 2021 mixed by christian ryder and ryan long as well as mastered by josie lucido at awkward audio space. a series of personnel changes ensued, until the band resolidifed with mikey and jane now joined by "six" and ethyl dornberger on guitar. after a few years of incubation, this new lineup released the full-length "anyway, anyway, anyway…" on september 11, 2024.
