Biography
There are at least two bands who are, or have been, known by the name of "Waterdog." One was a Pop-Punk band that released a self-titled album in 1995. Little information is available about this Waterdog, which may have been based out of Gainesville, FL. The second band named Waterdog is described below.
It all began in 1997 when Martin Ekelund met Patrik Berglin and started to discuss music. They soon found out that they share the same taste in music. And what was more obvious then to start the best rockband in the world? Excactly…nothing! They found the drummer P-O Borg and started to write songs and rehearse. After a while P-O dropped the band and Martin and Patrik stood without a drummer. One warm and shiny day when the sky was blue and the world, for once, was a friendly and peacefull place, Martin came up with the brilliant idea of asking an old childhood friend to join the band. Hard hitting Daniel Persson united their forces and Waterdog was a fact.
The first couple of years they decided not to do any gigs. They put their efforts in writing songs, rehearsing and becoming a solid unit. In 1998 Waterdog recorded and self-released their first EP named “Waterdog”. It included five pop songs and was the first step into the circus of pop- and rockmusic.
In April of 1999 they did their first gig at the Gästis Hotel in the hometown of Klippan and one month later they began their first tour with The Vibrators (!) and did their second gig in Jyväskylä, Finland. Good work lads!
In 1999 they recorded their second EP titled “A single peepshow”. Later that year Waterdog did a concert at Tullakrok, one of the oldest festivals in Sweden. After the gig Martin ran into Matta Persson, another musician from Klippan. In the name of beer, beer and more beer he asked Matta to join the band as a guitarist. And then even more beer fueled Matta to simply say “- Ehhh…yeah?”. Now the band was formed as they still are today.
During the years Waterdog has shapened their music into what they describe as a measure of rock, with infectious pop melodies written with a kohl pencil from Lóreal and rounded off with a live atmosphere that’s hard to resist.
