Born in 1982 in Taichung, Taiwan, Wei-Chieh Lin’s compositions range from a variety of solo instrumental music to orchestral works, small and large ensemble music, vocal and choral music, as well as Jazz and pop arrangements. His compositions have been performed and premiered at Avery Fisher Hall, Alice Tully Hall, and Peter Jay Sharp Theater at Lincoln Center, Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Chelsea Art Museum, and Jordan Hall in Boston. Additional performances and premieres also took place in Taiwan and Japan. Mr. Lin’s large chamber ensemble work, Dialogues (2004), commissioned by Joel Sachs for the New Juilliard Ensemble, was premiered in Alice Tully Hall in 2004. His chamber ensemble work Traveling What Seems to be a Straight Line (2005), was choreographed by the members of the Juilliard School Dance Division and was subsequently premiered in Alice Tully Hall in 2005. His orchestral work, Retrospection (2006-7), winner of the 2008 ASCAP/Morton Gould Young Composer Award, the Palmer-Dixon prize, and a finalist for the Minnesota Orchestra Composer Institute, was premiered by the Juilliard Orchestra conducted by Jeffery Milarsky at The Peter Jay Sharp Theater in 2007. His latest orchestral work, Suite (2007), was commissioned by the Hudson Symphony Orchestra for the inauguration of the president of the St. Peters College. His first choral work, Bring Me Back My Homeland (2008-9), commissioned by the Formosa Performing Art Association, was premiered by Chi-Yi Chen and the Formosa Chorus in Avery Fisher Hall in July 2009. Mr. Lin has also participated in the Aspen Music Festival (99’, 00’) and the Composers Conference and Chamber Music Center (09’). Among various arrangements by Mr. Lin, his solo guitar works have been recorded numerous times by Soichi Muraji under the Victor CD label. His orchestral arrangements have also been performed by the New York Asian Symphony Orchestra during its Japan tour in 2009. Mr. Lin has completed his Bachelor of Music and Masters of Music with scholarship at The Juilliard School under the tutelage of Milton Babbitt and Robert Beaser, where he is now finishing his doctorate degree in composition.
