Biography

Werd (S.O.S) is an award winning, Glasgow born, hip-hop artist well known throughout the Scottish scene. He has worked with, and continues to work with new and old artists in Scotland and abroad, creating music with some of Scotland’s top producers and artists in the genre. Further to performing gigs at venues in the major cities, Werd has excelled in this field, supporting the likes of Dr Syntax, Stig of The Dump, S.A.S. and Devlin.

Not content being just a ‘music act’ in rap, he also runs Sons of Scotland (SOS) based in Edinburgh with fellow rapper Deeko, whom he first started recording music with at the early age of 14. SOS gained a following both local and overseas due to the amount of quality material produced in a short time, free downloads quickly built up and so did the website’s traffic, creating a buzz for the Scottish group. Progressing through airwaves of local and university radio stations, Werd now finds himself being played on national and international stations such as BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra.

In 2011 Werd won Urban Recording of the Year at the Scottish New Music Awards ceremony held at the Classic Grand in Glasgow for the ‘Vagabonds In Space’ release along with Wardie Burns, Zambian Astronaut and Mog. This was a benchmark achievement for Scottish hip-hop as no such feat had be accomplished before hand, with rap music in the UK tending to only be England grabbing attention. Speaking of down south, he has also hosted and co-hosts rap battles for SSU & Don’t Flop, UK’s No1 battle league.
