Biography
Yo Miles! is a project led by trumpeter Wadada Leo Smith and guitarist Henry Kaiser to explore and expand on the music of Miles Davis in his electric fusion phase of the late 1960s and early 1970s. They have released three albums worth of material ("Yo Miles!" in 1998, "Sky Garden" in 2004, and "Upriver" in 2005).
Aside from Smith and Kaiser, Yo Miles! has included the following musicians at one time or another: Mike Keneally, Chris Muir, and Nels Cline on electric guitars; Michael Manring on bass; Greg Osby (alto) and John Tchicai (tenor and soprano) on saxophones; Steve Smith, Karl Perazzo, Wally Ingram, and Lukas Ligeti on drums and percussion and Tom Coster on keyboards.
Guests at some of the concerts/recordings included guests Zakir Hussain on tabla, the ROVA Saxophone Quartet, pianist/organist Paul Plimley, pianist Greg Goodman, organist John Medeski (of Medeski, Martin and Wood), saxophonist George Brooks, bass clarinetist Oluyemi Thomas, Freddie Roulette on lap steel guitar, guitarists Elliott Sharp and Dave Creamer, and electronic keyboardist Bob Bralove.
