…performed as YOLANDA singer/songwriter/gender warrior with his/her band "Yolanda and the Plastic Family". Roger created the character "Yolanda", wrote the lyrics, co-wrote the music with Adam Wood,Jess Jurkovic,Robert Urban, and created the costumes, toured the US and recorded with his/her band.
Some YOLANDA highlights include a feature on The Dave Chapelle Show, performing with Hedda Lettuce as "The Dixie Chicks With Dicks",working with Rufus Wainwright, Martha Wash, and the late Dean Johnson
YOLANDA was born in Burlington,VT as Roger was working on his MFA in performance art and living with the Radical Faeries. YOLANDA's popularity in Vermont led to Roger's move to NYC.
YOLANDA's NYC venues included CBGB's, The Cutting Room, Webster Hall, The Pyramid, The Limelight, and Wigstock. From 1997-1999 Yolanda's music garnered very good critical attention especially from Larry Flick of Billboard Magazine. Flick called him the "…best unsigned artist of 1999".
YOLANDA's band The Plastic Family originated in Vermont during his collaboration with a jazz fusion trio called Dig Three-led by keyboardist Adam Wood. The original band was:
