Biography
Zangbeto is a trio of young Togolese musicians—Joachim Amouzou (piano), Honoré Dafo (bass), and Henoch Fafadji (drums)—formed in 2021 under the mentorship of Peter Solo from Vaudou Game. The name "Zangbeto" means "night hunter" and refers to a masked society in southern Benin that protects communities and wards off evil spirits.
After performing with singer Sabine Kouli at the Togoville Jazz festival, the trio participated in the JazzUp program at the Académie Jazz à Vienne in France in 2022 and 2023. Their album project emerged from a collaboration with French trumpeter Félicien Bouchot during the Lomé Jazz Festival. In 2023, they worked with guitarist Romain Baret in France, creating a unique repertoire that blends jazz with traditional Togolese rhythms and songs.
