Biography

Ziza Bafana (born Kasendwa Richard) is an Ugandan artist born in Villa Maria town outside of Masaka. He joined the church choir at an early age. Ziza Bafana is a name with a meaning. In the Bible, Ziza is the name of Shiphi's son. In Rwanda, Ziza is the name of someone who can help the president. And Bafana comes from the name of the South African football team called Bafana Bafana. In 2012, he went to South Africa for a music trip. While there, he went out with a South African friend, and when he got back, his friends started calling him Bafana.

That is where he got experience in singing and also playing musical instruments in styles like Jazz and keyboard in primary school he joined the music club as a drummer. He later joined St Henry's College Kitovu and later St Stephen's Kyebando, where he completed his studies after UCE.

For some music lovers, Kasendwa is mostly known as Ziza Bafana, the other half of the now-defunct Back 2 Life group alongside Yiya Moze. Just like Yiya, Kasendwa too was a solo artiste before Back 2 life. He had even recorded a song, Omutima Mugumu, with his friends Eddy Kenzo and David Lutalo.

His music is deeply inspired by ragga music from Jamaica, a style which is very popular in Uganda.
