Biography
Skye Kothari aged 23 (born on November 22nd) better known as acloudyskye, is a producer, singer, and songwriter from New York. He's best recognized for his genre-defying electronic music, which blends elements of post-rock, indie, folk, and industrial with melodic dubstep, making him one of the most acclaimed artists in the EDM scene.
In addition to his musical endeavors, he is also a world builder, story writer, 3D artist, and animator. His origins into visual art began with creating Minecraft animations as a kid. In 2016, he started using Blender and has since designed every cover art for his music. His art inspirations include Anton Fadeev, a sci-fi concept artist he discovered on ArtStation, and Simon Stålenhag who have greatly influenced his work.
Accompanying his music, acloudyskye has created a world called "FIRST ENCOUNTERS" complete with characters and a storyline told through his music and 3D animations. The narrative explores the lives of inhabitants on a post-human Earth and unfolds across his albums.
Growing up, acloudyskye was surrounded by music. His father played bass in a band, and he was exposed to a lot of 2000s rock, including Radiohead, Pixies Pavement and The Killers. He started playing guitar at age 12 and had a childhood dream of becoming a rockstar.
"When I was a kid… it’s very white of me, but I was like, I wanna be Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin. My dad would show me the concert footage, and I would think, that’s gonna be me one day." - acloudyskye
However, he wouldn't reach those dreams until much later. Between 2012 and 2014, acloudyskye was introduced to dubstep through Skrillex and became so fascinated by it that he wanted to learn how to create it. This marked the beginning of his journey into wanting to release music. Over the next four years, he released dubstep songs on AudioTool, where he was inspired by many artists on the platform, including his long-time friend Xavi.
Throughout 2017, acloudyskye started learning Ableton while still being on AudioTool, still creating dubstep, he continued to slowly transition to making more melodic and experimental electronic music. He credits this evolution to listening to a lot of post-rock, mentioning We Lost the Sea, Oh Hiroshima, Daughter, and[Godspeed You! Black Emperor.
