Biography

Formed under the name "Nigress" as a Generic Black Metal project in late 2005, producing a demo released on an extremely small scale. Over time the emphasis and ideology changed and the band changed it's name to Amaurosis, as a more fitting metaphor.

Amaurosis generally draws inspiration from and can be deemed as a catharsis for numerous facets of human nature and existence. The conflict of emotion and reason, emotions which lead to frequent delusions that run contrary to reality. The conflicting endeavor of learning about ourselves and reality with the desire to alter and momentarily 'escape' it, which can sometimes help achieve a greater understanding. The struggle to cope with the perceived mundane, stressful and painful aspects of life weighed against an instinctual will to survive through all of them. The arrogant pretense humanity has long assigned for it's place in existence and the potential depression that can arise due to understanding how unnecessary and insignificant we truly are when contemplating the sheer scale of the universe. The negativity that can and often does arise from the revelation that we are simply part of the 1% of currently living species whilst 99% have become resigned to extinction, and the fact that eventually our species will join that 99%. The turmoil that can follow from the revelation that existence is unessential and the numerous material and psychological constructs we have devised, that we may cherish or loathe, mean nothing outside of our species. That, despite what we may think or feel, each and every single one of us is truly unessential and that eventually everything that exists will cease to exist. That many people are willingly or unknowingly blind, or partially blind, to reality.

Work on the debut album continues, with the music most easily being described as 'Experimental Metal'.
