Biography
desmond was born in Kingston, Jamaica. He was inspired to be successful by the hand to mouth existence he led growing up with a single mom. When he was 8 years old he was taken to live with adopted parents at which time he was inspired to become a musician. They had a small but rich record collection and they sang, albeit not professionally.
They were devout Seventh Day Adventists and they took him to church every week. It had a rich music program and a number of persons who were successful in their various fields went there. It was there that he discovered that he could sing. He got baptized when he was nine years old and became active in church. Over the years he sang in and directed the youth choir and the church choir and directed the music program. He also toured with a few prominent gospel groups such as the Gospel Proclaimers and Sunshine Echoes. He later sang with the Kingston College Chapel Choir, the Diocesan Festival Choir and the National Chorale of Jamaica. He was also assistant choirmaster of all these choirs except the National Chorale. He started Jamaica’s first professional classical choir, the Jamaica Vocal Ensemble. He sang cabaret on Jamaica’s north coast hotel circuit and played principal roles in Jamaica’s Little Theater Movement’s Pantomime Company. He has worked as a Minister of Music across the United States as well as performed as a reggae singer/songwriter in New York, Miami, Nashville, Los Angeles, New Orleans, Atlanta, and Memphis. He is currently based and is actively touring in the Southeastern US.
He released an EP in August 2011 which has been selling well and getting airplay and good reviews. He recently performed at the historic Apollo Theater in NYC as a finalist in a reality series “Apollo Live” to be aired on BET/Centric on November 25, 2012.
